Five members of a family from Seeragapadi Pudur of Salem reportedly attempted to self-immolate at the Tirunelveli collectorate on Monday. Reports suggest that the family took the decision as they were unable to get electricity connection to their home. The family had to pass a relative’s home to reach theirs. They were allegedly not able to get the connection as the relative opposed to taking the electricity post through his land. The police prevented them from self-immolating and took them to the police station for inquiry, say reports.
