On August 19 (Sunday), the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has decided to name one of the stands at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium after Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli is certainly the youngest player in Indian Cricket history who has claimed outstanding records in a very short span of time. He also has a strong fan base around the nation who never fail to laud his consistent game of cricket.

Kohli gets a stand named after him in Delhi Kotla stadium

“Big announcement: DDCA president @RajatSharmaLive and Apex Council decide to name one Stand of Ferozshah Kotla stadium as ‘Virat Kohli Stand’ in honour of his achievements. @imVkohli and Indian team will be felicitated on September 12. More details on DDCA website... @BCCI,” (sic), tweeted DDCA

Apparently, Virat Kohli will be the youngest cricketer from Delhi to receive this honour. Former cricketers, Bishan Singh Bedi and Mohindar Amarnath have stands named after them in Feroz Shah Kotla. However, they received the honours only after their respective retirement.

DDCA President Rajat Sharma said “Virat Kohli’s outstanding contribution to world cricket has done DDCA proud. We are happy to honour him for achieving certain milestones and unbeatable captaincy record. To cherish these memories, DDCA wanted to dedicate a stand in his name,” (sic) as per the tweet by DDCA.

Having seen some of the big names over the stands, probably Virat Kohli might have thought that someday he would also get to see his name in big letters. The inspiring gesture of DDCA could be related to one of the scenes in a Tamil film where the male lead looks at Rajinikanth’s “Kabali” poster over a large banner and aspires to see himself on the big-sized banner some other day.
