After West Indies finished ninth among ten teams in the ICC World Cup 2019, the team management has reportedly sacked Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite from limited-overs captaincy and replaced them with Kieron Pollard.

The team also suffered defeat to India in the recently concluded T20I (0-3) and ODI (0-2) series at home.

According to a report in the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian, the decision was taken by the Cricket West Indies Board of Directors on Saturday during their two-day quarterly meet in Port-of-Spain. When the selection committee put forward Pollard’s name, six directors backed him while the other six abstained.

While Pollard is a regular in T20Is, he has not played an ODI for almost three years now. His last ODI appearance was in October 2016. However, the 32-year-old all-rounder is the top run-getter in the ODI series against India.

Pollard has played 101 ODI matches scoring 2289 runs which include three centuries and nine half-centuries. In T2OI, he has 903 runs to his name from 62 matches.
