While Nirbhaya convicts are all set to be hanged soon, February 1, 2020, is the date that has been fixed as of now, time and again the question of minors getting away with lighter punishments for heinous crimes arises often. The sixth accused in the Nirbhaya case, was a juvenile and was six months short of 18 when the unpardonable crime took place. He was let off after having served three years in jail. The Delhi government even gave him a sewing machine and a cash of Rs 10,000 in order to earn a livelihood as a tailor.

What Is the Minor Accused in Nirbhaya Case Doing Now?

Newspaper reports claim that the minor has been relocated to an isolated town in south India, where he is working as a cook in the restaurant. An NGO claims that he has changed over a new leaf and his identity has been hidden from his employer, who doesn't have any idea who he is. He is also known by a new name, a report claims. A Hindustan Times report says that the minor lived some 240 km away from Delhi and ran away from home at the age of 11. His elder sister and family still live in the same village, with the sister taking care of the entire family of six, further adds the report.

It was said that he was taken in by Ram Singh (who committed suicide in 2013 in jail) as a cleaner of the bus.

A 23-year-old physiotherapy student was brutally gangraped in a moving bus in Delhi in 2012 by a gang of six including the juvenile and Ram Singh. Four other convicts in the case – Pawan Gupta, Mukesh Singh, Akshay Thakur and Vinay Sharma – are set to be hanged on February 1, 2020, in Tihar jail.
