A Delhi High Court has set February 1, 2020, as the date for the four convicts in the Nirbhaya case – Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur – to be hanged. Earlier, the date that was set was January 22, 2020. However, every time an execution date is set, a mercy/curative petition, which means that the convicts can’t be hanged since all of them have to be executed at the same time.

Hang them One by One, says Nirbhaya\'s Mother

A visibly enraged Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi has asked for the convicts to be hanged one by one, adding that it will teach them a lesson against toying with the law. She was quoted by ANI as saying, “Their tactic to delay hanging has been rejected. I'll be satisfied only when they're hanged on Feb 1. Just like they're delaying it one after other, they must be hanged one by one so that they understand what it means to toy with law.”

Recently, Pawan Gupta had filed a petition stating that he was a minor at the time of the incident, which was promptly rejected by the Supreme Court.

A 23-year-old physiotherapy student was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi in 2012. A Delhi court had earlier handed out death sentences to the four accused in the case. Ram Singh, another accused in the case had committed suicide in 2013 whereas a minor spent three years in a juvenile home and was released.
