Unfortunately, there has been a spurt in the number of atrocities being committed against women. Therefore, it becomes more pertinent than ever for women to think of all possible measures to safeguard themselves. Students of Chandigarh University have invented a device – which they call ‘Queen Belt’ – to help women save themselves during times of distress.

Women safety: Students invent rape prevention belt

The belt, equipped with an electronic circuit, has a Global Positioning System (GPS) and a mobile SIM card. Queen Belt can be worn after applying a conductive tape inside the cloth and can only be opened with a four-digit pin, reports ANI.

In case, anyone tries to open or cut the belt forcibly, it sends an alert to the family members and the cops. The belt comes with a rechargeable battery and has a shelf life of one month.

Javtesh Singh, one of the students involved in the making of the belt, explained how it works. He said that the emergency contact also receives the victim’s location transmitted via the GPS tracking system, which can be accessed using a mobile app.

Queen Belt has been patented and efforts are on to make way for its commercial use soon.
