"I am grieved and shocked to know that a group of people caused the death of an innocent, passive, pregnant elephant by feeding the elephant with a pineapple filled with firecrackers," he tweeted.

"Such criminal acts against innocent animals are no different than acts of meditated murder against other humans. Justice needs to prevail," he said.

On May 27, the pregnant elephant passed away after locals fed the elephant with a pineapple that had fire crackers loaded within.

This heart breaking incident has evoked millions to seek justice as social media posts have swamped up in large numbers, addressing animal cruelty. While discussing this issue, the Kerala government on Wednesday, said that a wildlife crime investigation team is involved with the case. The government said that the centre took a serious note on the incident and sought a report from the state. The team is expected to identify the locals who committed the crime.
