Punjab government denies announcing taxes on keeping pets

The Punjab government reportedly clarified that they have not issued any notification imposing a new tax on keeping pets. According to initial reports, people living in urban areas were expected to pay Rs 250 per year for owning dog, cat, pig, sheep or deer. Those owning buffalo, bull, camel, horse, cow or elephant were to shell out Rs 500 per year. "News reported in sections of media regarding the imposition of a tax upon keeping pets in urban areas is totally baseless," the state government said in a statement.
