KERALA 'SNAKE BITE' MURDER CASE: POLICE TO EXTRACT DNA FROM SNAKE TO HELP INVESTIGATION

For the first time in the history of Kerala, the police department has conducted the postmortem of a snake carcass. This was done because it is linked to the recent death of 25-year-old Uthra who had died due to a snake bite on May 7. 

When the police investigated into the matter, they found that the girl was murdered by her husband who bought the snake to kill her. The snake carcass was buried within the premises of their house. 

A team comprising of forensic scientists, policemen and forest officials reached their house, obtained the snake carcass and carried the postmortem. The DNA is also going to be extracted and used for the investigation. 

"For the first time in a case, we are conducting a DNA test of a dead snake for the investigation. The test will be done outside the state most probably Chennai or Hyderabad. I have also directed the investigation team to file the charge sheet within 90 days", Kerala DGP Loknath Behra told media.

He also stated that though the case is peculiar, investigation will be carried out in a scientific manner.
