According to reports, over 9 lakh senior citizens voluntarily gave up their Railway ticket subsidy, which offered them significant discounts on ticket prices. This gesture has saved the Railways nearly Rs 40 crore. From this year onwards, senior citizens have the option of either fully giving up their subsidy or relinquishing up to 50 % of it. The ‘give up’ scheme was launched to ease the financial burden on the Railways.
