An entire village boycotts Gujarat polls – Here’s why

According to reports, none of the 1000 registered voters of Gajadi village of Morbi district, Gujarat voted in today’s election. "Villagers had announced a few months ago that they will refrain from voting. Their main grievance was about water supply. Though the village is being supplied water through a pipeline, they claimed it was not enough and demanded another pipeline," said Morbi Collector and District Election Officer IK Patel. Despite repeated requests from senior officials and assurances that a new pipeline will be laid soon, none of the villagers relented as they wanted the assurance in writing, which was turned down by the officials who said that such written assurances were against the model code of conduct.
