Reports have come in of two workers who died while working inside a sewage tank in Noida's Sector 39. A team of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) officials arrived at the scene and pulled out the two workers in the early hours of Friday morning, according to Mirror Now reports.

NDRF personnel arrived at the spot at 2.15 am last night and managed to pull out the body of the first worker only around 6.25 am after 4 hours. An official told media outlets that both of the workers died after water gushed inside the tank without giving them any notice.

India has witnessed a lot of deaths due to manual scavenging. Recently, in April, two workers reportedly died as a result of inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning a septic tank in Gurugram.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a step to curb manual scavenging deaths by handing over as many as 200 sewer cleaning machines to sanitary workers in the national capital earlier this year. The machines are equipped for hydraulic jetting, grabbing and rodding work. It is a need of the hour for the government to take steps to stop manual scavenging and deaths related to it.
