‘village president’ has
also been used many times as a subject
of ridicule and sarcasm I films. One
of the best perhaps is what Vivek
did in Kadhal Sadukudu as the son
of Saathappan, the reigning village
headman. All the comic elements were
there; the word play with name, the
traditional ‘sombu’ to
give the verdict and the usually antiquated
judgments that are given out which
Vivek vehemently opposed. The ‘Minor
Kunju’ scene is one of the most
famous in the movie.
Nevertheless, that is the only
not-so-serious Village President
we are dealing with here. The rest,
as you will see, are of actors in
serious roles who immortalized the
whole phenomenon of giving away
justice in villages whilst wielding
Sombu under the Peepul Tree. |
