Soori

The story opens on Valentine’s Day. And flashes back to another Valentine’s Day from the past. The film believes in love as an absolute. Love isn’t the staple ingredient that it usually is in Indian cinema but is the film’s very focus. Here love is religion; love is faith. Two young lovers (Vignesh, Uma) decide to separate for a year to test if what they feel for each other is love or just lust. The journey that both will make to find each other again is the heart of the film. Their journey will also define the nature of true love. What Vignesh discover at the climax of the film reveals to him (and us) the real nature of true love. The secret, as you all know, lies in the name ‘Soori’ Love in this film is not just another Kollywood prop. Soori was perhaps a little offbeat for an audience more used to the theme of true love being handled more predictably and less intensely.
