Sid Sriram steals the show at Seekers

September 9 (Sunday) started off as a rather normal day in the city until the clock struck 6:30 pm. Sid Sriram was in the city, doing what he does best along with three other proficient masters of their respected arts.

Accompanied by renown pianist Anil Srinivasan, Ghatam wizard Dr. S Karthick, and expert Mridangist J Vaidhyanathan, the sensational Sid Sriram was responsible for a magical session of music that enthralled the audience.

Seekers, was the name of this kutcheri and the show literally worked like an elaboration of the name. A set of musicians seeking to bring out the best from a collaborative effort based out of Carnatic music, one of the oldest, most complicated and beautiful forms of music.

Majorly impromptu, Sid, along with his deft team of artists created a wave of interesting songs that included classic devotional, Carnatic pieces, and mainstream film songs. Needless to mention, the response from the crowd was extremely positive. Though, there was a mount of expectations placed on the cinema songs sung by Sid.

Apart from various versions of his hit songs like Maruvaarthai, Inkem Inkem, Thalli Pogathey, Yennai Maatrum Kadhale, he also reprised prime tracks such as Ilayaraaja's Kanne Kalaimaane and AR Rahman's Nila Kaigirathu.

It is to be noted that all these songs were sung with a deep sense of improvisation in the Carnatic genre. Anil Srinivasan's piano weaved magic, as Vaidhyanathan and Karthick had their own time to showcase their talents in a mini percussion war.

Post-performance, Sid and the others, personally met a majority of the crowd and welcomed pictures and praises. On the whole, an exciting evening was presented to us by four incredibly talented lovers of the art.
