Popular actress turned politician, Divya Spandana was recently criticised for her older tweets (that were made in 2010), in support of Indian business tycoon Vijay Mallya. The Vaaranam Aayiram actress was the brand ambassador for Mallya's IPL team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, from 2010 - 2012. Currently, Divya takes care of the social media and digital communications of the National Party, All India Congress Committee.
With Mallya, now owing over Rs 9000 crores to Indian banks, her previous tweets are linked, and rumours speculate that Divya Spandana could be behind Vijay Mallya, helping him in London. It was also speculated that Divya went on a holiday to Hong Kong in 2010, in Mallya's sponsorship. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has questioned the Congress and Divya on this link.
To these allegations, Divya Spandana replied, "1. I was brand ambassador for RCB along with Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Puneet Rajkumar from 2010-2012. So what? And Puhleeze! In all modesty, I can afford to sponsor my holidays. I can also sponsor your next holiday Arnab, when BJP stops doing it for you
2. I’ve known Mr. Mallya since I was a kid. Yes, he and his family have always been nice to me. I feel sorry for what has happened but that does not mean I endorse or I am privy to his financial dealings like @rajeev_mp is. Ask your friend Arnab. Don’t mess with me yo!"
