40 YEARS OLD, STILL ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS FILMS EVER MADE!

This 69^th Independence Day, Big B has another reason to rejoice. One of the most celebrated movies of all time, Sholay celebrates its 40^th year anniversary today. Until today the classic remains to be one of the most famous films India has ever made. It is so famous that in 2002, the British Film Institute ranked it first in its list of Top 10 Indian Films of all time.

The movie had an extraordinary ensemble of Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Badhuri, Amjadh Khan and many others. After being in the making for a long time, the movie went through a hard time with the censor board and the film had to be chopped and altered at places. Originally a 204 minute long movie, Sholay finally released as a 198 minute movie on 15th August 1975.

It didn’t fare well at the BO initially and through positive word of mouth the movie started picking up well just when the theater owners were planning to pull it away. Today, it features in the list of longest-running movies of all time.
