The positive word of mouth surrounding Nalan Kumarasamy’s Soodhu Kavvum has propelled the film to success. More often than not, wherever there is success there is a controversy lurking around the corner. The director of the film hit out against those who were propagating that the film had poor subtitles.

Nalan believes that this has been fuelled by competitors in the subtitling industry who missed out on the chance to work in this film. He also pointed out that AP International, responsible for coding subtitles, had appreciated the subtitles saying it was one of the best they had seen in recent times.

Nalan admits that the vocabulary may not have been elitist but the idea was to simplify the language without losing the essence of the dialogue and ensure that the common man could enjoy it. He requested the instigators of this negative campaign to back off or he will be forced to act upon them.
