S.R.Prabhakaran, the captain of the successful team ‘Sundarapandiyan’, has chosen Udhyanithi Stalin for his second film ,

Film opens with hospital in Madurai and move to a flashback within flashback for a song with Santhanam (Mayilvaganam)  Coming back to the first flashback, Nayanthara (Pavithra), is a girl who is in a good friendship with Sundar Ramu (Gowtham) after rejecting his proposal initially. Saranya Ponavannan and Aadukalam Naren play parents of Udhayanithi. Chaya Singh(the same 'Manmatha raasa' girl), arrive at home after a small crack in relationship with her lover-husband. Udhayanithi reaches Coimbatore in an attempt to solve their problem. As usual falls for Nayanthara, who may regret for accepting the role now.

Santhanam helps in love and usual things follow including unbearable duets. Break is called when Udhyanidhi is unable to return home as his father is angry on him for going to his sister’s place as he opposes love marriage while Nayanthara too rejects him. With Santhanam, how he manages to win Nayanthara’s heart and his father’s consent is the rest of the plot, with much improved showing in the later part but still not enough to convince us. Mayilsamy’s presence is the sole positive in the comedy angle apart from rare ones from Santhanam. His dialogues fares very averagely.

Music by Harris Jayaraj sounds like a newcomer, not justifying his experience and star value in tracks and background score. A very poor scripting in the first part spoils any good thoughts on story-line that could have made some impact in later stages. Cinematography by Balasubramaniem captures Nayanthara beautifully, but that alone can’t make up for the screenplay.

Jayaprakash and Vanitha have short roles. Udhyanithi has improved a lot after his maiden outing, but still much more of those are required. Climax with Aadukalam Naren, is something that can be of interest for lovers who fear parents and is executed well.

The director of commercially successful and also critically acclaimed ‘Sundarapandiyan’ fails to make use of that fame and popularity he created for himself.

Marks: 4.5/10
