The petition filed against Sri
Priya, Suriya, Vijayakumar, Arun
Vijay, Vivek, Sathyaraj, Sarath
Kumar and Cheran came up for hearing
at the Sivagangai district court
yesterday, October 30th, 2009. According
to the petitioner (wife of a journalist),
the actors and actress tarnished
the image of the journalists and
their families in their speeches
during the protest meeting held
by the Nadigar Sangam, in Chennai,
condemning the defamation of film
artistes by the Tamil daily Dina
Malar.
The petitioner contended that the
stars must be punished under section
499 of the IPC. Taking up this issue
for hearing, the magistrate ordered
that summons be issued to the above-mentioned
stars to appear before the court
on November 19th.
