Nadigar Sangam to show the red card?

An article, recently published by Ananda Vikatan, seems to have stirred a hornet’s nest. This one is about a blog written by well-known writer Jayamohan. It was reported in the magazine that the writer had made some crude remarks about the two icons of Tamil cinema –MGR and Sivaji Ganesan, the first, the former chief minister of the state, the second, an epitome of the film industry.

These remarks were widely condemned by all sections of society. Objurgating the statements made, fans and worshippers of MGR conducted a fast at Chepauk on 1st March, 2008. Ruing that the blog would have gone unnoticed if Ananda Vikatan had decided not to publish it, fans decried the magazine also.

Nadigar Sangam has also issued a statement that the writer should be reprimanded. To this end, a meeting has been convened on 9th March 2008 to discuss a future course of action. Interestingly, Jayamohan is presently associated with two Tamil films – Naan Kadavul and Angadi Theru. Though Naan Kadavul is nearing completion, Angadi Theru’s fate seems to hang in the balance because of this controversy.
