Vijayshanthi was arrested
by the Hyderabad police for threatening speech
she had made. The actress, who is also a Member
of Parliament, had said that she would behead
any one opposing the formation of Telangana
state. Vijayshanthi belongs to the TRS party,
which spearheads the separate Telangana movement.
The actress was initially said to be absconding
but was later arrested near her residence
when she was traveling with her supporters.
On her arrest, Vijayshanthi stated that she
was manhandled by the police and her saree
was torn while in the process of taking her
to the police station. She added that the
TRS Chief Chandrasekara Rao requested her
to come out on bail, against her wishes, as
her supporters were planning a huge protest.
