Kanthaswamy’s blooming Mexican love affair

What started out as a frustrating delay has now become a huge blessing! This best describes what the crew of Kanthaswamy experienced over the last month. Susi Ganesan initially planned to shoot a part of the movie in Kenya. But political problems and riots in the country forced them to look for a different location, they zeroed in on Mexico, a place alien to Tamil cinema till now. But what followed since has been close to a fairy tale,

Kanthaswamy
if not more unbelievable. Kanthaswamy may have just opened a floodgate of opportunities for Tamil cinema, that’s how things look like.

Susi Ganesan, Vikram, Kalaippuli Thanu, cameraman Ekambaram and Thotta Tharani visited Mexico to select locations for the shoot. It took them nearly four days of scouting in helicopters to find the right spots. It was in the Turango state of Mexico and to obtain the necessary clearances they were directed to the governor of the state Mr. C.P. Ismael Alfredor Hernandez Drras, by the Mexican ambassador to India Mr. Ringzing Wangali. The Kanthaswamy team was virtually overwhelmed on their arrival with a red-carpet welcome and a grand banquet. There was a special screening of the Kanthaswamy trailer on the occasion and it more than impressed the Mexican officialdom with its perfection, just like it had impressed us a few months back. Everyone present couldn’t help appreciate the work of Susi Ganesan and Vikram. The logo sketched by Thotta Tharani showing the national birds of both the countries too drew a lot of admirers. The interest shown by the guests to associate with this vibrant crew resulted in a fruitful agreement; a joint Indo-Mexican venture, with Thanu at the helm of affairs, that’s something.

Having seen what the crew of Kanthaswamy can produce, the Mexicans did not want to do any tinkering with the combination, the joint production will star Vikram once again under the direction of Susi Ganesan. The movie will also see many Mexican artistes along with Vikram. Now, this might sound a bit over the top, all this joint venture stuff. But when the government of free and fair democracy issues an official statement to this effect it cannot be overlooked and its authenticity cannot be doubted.

As further measures of getting to know each other better, the hosts then took the crew to a studio where another grand reception awaited them. Vikram then got into the act spreading his charm all over, dancing along with the local performers, trying his hand out at bull fighting and a whole lot of other things that floored the hosts completely. The ambassador then invited the crew for the flag hoisting ceremony of Republic day.

As the crew of Kanthaswamy returns to India they seem to have done exceedingly well not only for themselves but also for Tamil cinema in general. From how things look now, they can only get better. Kanthaswamy is scheduled to shoot in Mexico some time in May.

May they live a beautiful Mexican dream.
