Timiru and Aran open big at box office!!
Two films have released at the box office this weekend. Vishal starrer Timiru and Mohanlal, Jeeva starrer Aran are the films that are facing off. These movies now join last weeks release Unakkum Enakkum which has been steadily garnering very positive reviews since its release last Friday. The competition at the box office is heating up and the winner will be decided in the coming days.
Timiru: A complete entertainer
Thimiru & Aran
Both the releases carried very positive pre-release reports and it remains to be seen whether the movies live upto the expectations. Vishal who is eyeing a hat-trick of victories has chosen to go in for the tried and tested formula movie which has stunning fights, peppy songs, strong dialogues, comedy by Vadivelu, three leading ladies to provide enough glamour and all other ingredients of a commercial. The movie has been directed by debutant Tarun Gopi. The movie was expected to take a good opening and it did more than that with almost all the shows in the city running packed.
Advanced booking too is happening very briskly. The movie released in the city at Sangam complex, Sathyam Cineplex, Udhayam complex and other single screens. All centers carried positive reports. The news is that the movie has taken a bumper opening in Southern Tamil Nadu and other rural areas where Vishal’s Sandakkozhi had seen success. Just 3 movies old, Vishal seems to have already captured the imagination of the audience.
Vishal
Aran: A different attempt
Thimiru & Aran
Meanwhile Aran opened in the city at Sathyam Cineplex, Sangam complex and Abhirami complex and met with quite a good response. The movie handles a very different theme, about the life and struggles of army officers during the Kargil war. The movie was shot in the very dangerous premises of Kashmir and the results of the effort reportedly reflect well on screen. The movie reportedly looks very life like in it’s depiction of army life and this may be due to the fact that the movie was directed by an ex-serviceman, Major Ravi.
Though the movie did quite well in the city it is yet to really pick up in the smaller centers and rural areas. This was expected because the movie is not the regular action movie and has minimal commercial ingredients. Critics have given very positive reviews and only time will tell whether this will convert into box office results. After Dishyoom’s moderate run Jeeva needs this one to click at the box office. Also veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal is testing the waters in Tamil after a long time. His last movie in Tamil was PopCorn with Simran.
Jeeva
It had failed at the box office miserably. Aran has released simultaneously in Malayalam as Keerthi Chakra where it received a good opening.
The race to come first
The release of both these movies has given competition to Unakkum Enakkum that was working its way towards being a hit. Though all three movies look good only one of them will emerge at the top. Which is the one? Wait and watch.
