The Department of Telecom has reportedly asked the finance ministry to lower its non-tax revenue target to Rs 29,524 for FY18 from the earlier estimated Rs 47,304 as it anticipates that its revenue from the sector will fall by 38% in the current fiscal. “Severe financial stress” and a “rapid decline in earnings” of the operators are expected to affect the revenue, officials reportedly said.
