Tata Group in talks to buy Air India

According to reports, the Ratan Tata-led Tata Group is set to partner with Singapore Airlines to buy the government operated aircraft carrier Air India from the Indian government. Tata Chairman N Chandrasekaran has held informal talks with the government, expressing preliminary interest in buying a controlling stake in the airline with 51% equity, reports added. Notably, Air India was originally owned by Tata before being nationalised in 1953.
