Congress president Sonia Gandhi wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pass the 'Women reservation bill' in Loksabha. Reportedly she also stated that her party support to the legislation would be a significant step. The women's reservation bill was passed in Rajya Sabha on March 9, 2010. She also mentioned that Rajiv Gandhi started the reservation policy for women back in 1989 and was passed in both the house of parliamentary in 1993.
