According to reports, At least 16 Maoists were killed by police in Chhattisgarh in a clash that took place near Bijapur district, DM Awasthi, the chief of the state’s anti-Maoist force, reportedly said. The Centre had earlier vowed to take revenge after Maoists killed 24 CRPF personnel in Sukma in April. The Maoists say they are fighting for communist rule and greater rights for tribal people and the rural poor.
