Due to the increased number of applications flooding in arts and science colleges, the Madras University has reportedly allowed affiliated colleges to add up to 20% undergraduate and postgraduate seats in these streams. Close to 5,000 students will benefit from the move. Self-financing colleges could add 10% of the sanctioned strength, aided colleges 15% for non-laboratory courses and 10% for laboratory courses and government colleges 20% of the sanctioned strength.
