I have always believed that there are four kinds of movies. Outright bad ones which you enjoy watching just to make fun of them, then the average/good ones which do not really satisfy you since you end up feeling they could have been better, thirdly the great ones...you even watch them multiple times, can't stop raving about them and say things like "it's awesome", "wonderful", "brings tears to your eyes" and the like. Then there is the fourth kind. The kinds which you don't come across too often! And you simply run out of adjectives while trying to describe them. Timeless classics! AVATAR is one such.

The hype surrounding this film was unbelievable, what with its tag of the costliest film ever made and in plainer terms the return of James Cameron to the helm after 12 long years and oh boy does it live up to expectations or what!! For starters AVATAR takes the cinematic experience as we know it to an altogether different level. It is a seamless blend of live action and animation guaranteed to make your jaw drop in awe. Set in the 22nd century the story takes place light years away from earth in a distant moon called Pandora.

With the plot revolving around humans infiltrating this world (inhabited by a species of 9 foot tall creatures known as the Na'vi) through genetically altered forms of themselves known as avatars so as to plunder its rich ubtonium reserves worth billions, a war between the two species becomes inevitable. By making the humans refer to the Na'vis as "blue monkeys" and "savages" and by making us attached to them emotionally, giving us a feel of their daily life, rituals and customs...how easily does Cameron help us choose sides! A master at work!!

It would be a sheer understatement if I were to say the beauty of Pandora with its enchanting Flora and Fauna is a visual treat. Cameron's world is magical and his eye for details is mind boggling.

However a classic requires more than just a visionary director. The crew has to aid him gallantly to deliver the dynamite and in this case they do. Artwork probably deserves an Oscar. So does the soul stirring sound track. After a disappointing outing in TERMAINATOR SALVATION Sam Worthington redeems himself appreciably in this one. Frankly it is not too difficult to see how much the crew (both technical and non technical) would have toiled to bring out a final product of such epic proportions.

Over the years we have seen many movies tackling the issue of human confrontations with extra terrestrial beings in many different formats. That should however be a very timid reason to skip this one. This milestone movie is set to change the face of modern day cinema. Oh I almost forgot...Watch it only in 3D for that immersive experience. Enter Cameron's world at your own risk for you're sure to get blown away.

VERDICT: - SIMPLY MAJESTIC.
