Friday sentiment holds its sway

Behindwoods

It is a tradition that films are generally released on Fridays. In the West, it is hoped that the ensuing weekend will motivate the viewers to go to the theaters to watch while in India, Fridays are considered auspicious. Anyhow, Friday sentiment has stuck firmly. There is of course an exception for festival days like Pongal, Deepavali and Tamil New Year. However, there is a departure from this trend when films do not release on Fridays but on Saturdays. For example, Sathyaraj who does not believe in sentiments, got his film Englishkaran released on Saturday last as also Bharat’s February 14. Besides, Thennavan and Ayulregai were also released that day. However, Madhavan’s Priyasakhi and Kalaiyadha Ninaivugal were released on Friday. Let us wait and watch the fate of these films.
