Irrfan Khan showed his class in this movie which was based on the real life of athlete Paan Singh Tomar, an Army Man who was later forced to become a bandit. Mahie Gill also performed well in a deglam role. Despite being in the cans for a really long time, Paan Singh Tomar released and became a success purely on the strength of positive word of mouth. It made the pleasantly surprised producers, UTV, a gleeful lot.
