Jessie the film’s first and second act is equivalent to that of Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya, a film about a filmmaker named Karthik (what is the deal with filmmaker characters and the name Karthik), played by STR and his bittersweet love affair with Jessie, one of the complex female characters of Tamil cinema, played by Trisha. Jessie, the film is based on that and the difference between VTV and Jessie is that the former shows the uncomfortable reality of love, that a relationship needn’t always end with the hero and the heroine living happily ever after. VTV shows the hard truth of a perfect couple breaking up whereas Jessie the film ended with the couple getting married and live happily ever after. Karthik’s film is a wish fulfilment for himself.
