S Durga allowed screening at 48th International Film Festival of India by Kerala High Court

Today, November 21, the Kerala High Court passed an order allowing S Durga (formerly Sexy Durga), to be screened at the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

S Durga, directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan has achieved international fame and accolades due to its hard-hitting content, the same content (and title) causing it controversy in India. This move by the court is very beneficial for the film to reach the Indian audience.

"SEXY" HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THIS MOVIE'S TITLE!

Sexy cut from Sexy Durga by Indian censor board

Sanal Kumar Sasidharan's latest Malayalam film Sexy Durga has been hit by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and will be called S Durga for its release in India. It will premiere with the new title in the ongoing Mumbai film festival.

S Durga is a film which revolves around a couple harassed by the society. Its message is aimed at showcasing the poor situation of women's safety in India. But its original title Sexy Durga has hurt the sentiments of many Right-wing Hindu fanatics, who have taken up to troll, harass and threaten the heroine Rajshri and the director.

The censor board has given no reasons for the title change, but it is clearly to prevent offending the religious sentiments of our citizens. Since Durga is the name of a Hindu goddess, the prefix of sexy might have been thought of to create problems.

Sasidharan is also expectedly unhappy about this title change. What is your opinion?
