However, she quit films due to personal reasons and has only opened up a few times to silence a few rumours in the last decade. Recently, she spoke in a video where she expressed her desire to make a comeback into films. Noting that it'll be difficult at her age, she said she has hope to join the industry again. "I didn't act for these many years due to a few reasons. If I have to make a comeback, it might take a lot of time to learn and will be difficult. But I have strength and desire within myself," she said.

When a few pointed out that she might be doing this to gain publicity and media attention, Kanaka clarified that all she wanted to do was to share about her life. "I have not started learning anything. I was very eager to talk to you, so I spoke. I also thought as to why I should change myself. I am still thinking about learning. A lot of people are thinking that I spoke all this to start acting. I wanted to share what it would be like to act. I didn't use this as an opportunity for publicity inorder to start acting or for media attention," she said in the latest video.

Some of Kanaka's notable films include 'Periya Veetu Pannakkaran' (1990), 'Athisaya Piravi' (1990), 'Samundi' (1992), 'Periya Kudumbam' (1995) and 'Viralukketha Veekkam' (1999). She has acted in more than 50 films in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu as the leading actress in a span of 10 years.
