K Viswanath to get Dada Saheb Phalke award for 2016

Renowned and revered filmmaker/director K Viswanath will be conferred with the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2016. The award is for the outstanding contribution to the growth of cinema and carries with it a Golden Lotus, a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and a shawl. It will be conferred on the octogenarian on 3rd May by the President of India in Delhi.

K Viswanath is a Padmashri Awardee and has also won 5 National Awards, 20 Nandi Awards,  10 Filmfare Awards including Lifetime Achievement Award. His National Award-winning film Swati Mutyam starring Kamal Haasan was India's official entry to the 59th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category.


K.Viswanath has worked in many Tamil films such as Raja Paattai, Uttama Villain, Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Anbe Sivan and Singam 3 to name a few. His directorial Sankarabaranam starring Somayajulu, Manju Bhargavi and others was much appreciated.
