Director Lakshman of Bogan on the FB live and piracy of his film

Director Lakshman’s Bogan featuring Jayam Ravi, Arvind Swami, Hansika and others hit the screens on the 2nd of February to positive reviews. But looks like the happiness of the team was short lived when a USA distributor had informed that the entire film was live in FB with over 257 K views.

We caught up with Lakshman to know the details and he states, “We are trying all possible means to kill piracy, but tamilrockers are challenging us and uploading the film in different websites. They are even betting and doing this. This time around they had released the film in FB itself.

We are having a professional team which is working round the clock in identifying and blocking such websites. By the time we sort out one, something else crops up in the interim. If we block one website, there is another one which is emerging immediately. By then, some downloads have already happened. This kind of goes continuously.

Producer Council should decide something about it. In my opinion, if we have a separate counter near the ticket counter in the theatre where if we sell our original DVDs for Rs 40, at least, we can make some money and this would pave way for real good revenue. It appears that controlling the piracy is going to be a daunting task, then at least, let us make our revenues this way. My point is either they should kill piracy completely or at least let us make our money this way. We can give 100% quality DVDs. People who want to watch the film will definitely go to theatres.

When people are wondering why we are not giving a film of Hollywood standards, I would like to say that we have a lot of constraints not just through budgets but things like piracy which is eating into our revenues. If this continues, we are limiting the chances for the next generation who would have a tough time in making films”.
