Will Suriya's Masss undergo title change?

Apr 11, 2015

It’s a known fact that Tamil films with English titles are not eligible for tax benefits after the State Government’s announcement on the same few years back. The Government also declared that films with Tamil titles are eligible for entertainment tax exemption.

This rule applies to a ‘U’ certified movie and therefore ‘U/A’ or an ‘A’ certified film has to pay a huge amount as entertainment tax.

In the recent past only films that are certain to get a U/A or an A certification, have christened their films with English titles (Darling or Pizza).

There have been many movies in the past which had English titles at the start of the project but the makers changed it when the film went for censoring for obvious foresaid reason.

While on this subject, it has to be noted that Suriya’s upcoming film Masss is not a Tamil title.

Will the makers change the title of the film to squeeze in for commercial purposes or will Masss have an expansion? Or are the makers confident of getting anything but a ‘U’ certificate as the film is said to fall under the horror/comedy category?

With Masss being a big budgeted film, the makers must ideally be looking to get a ‘U’ to avail the tax benefits.

Let’s see. We will keep you posted on the development.
