"A great loss to Tamil Cinema"- Kamal Haasan

There is an interesting back-story involving the legends of Tamil cinema behind the title Pithamagan. Title of the critically acclaimed, Bala directorial Pithamagan was actually owned by another maverick director Prathap Pothen.

Years before Bala had the idea of doing a movie titled Pithamagan, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haassan actually wanted to do a movie by the name Pithamagan and almost got the dates from Sivaji Ganesan and K. Balachandar. Kamal also mentions that if the movie had happened then, it would have been his earlier tribute to the mentors of his life, but all the same, is glad that it at least happened through Uttama Villain this time.

Imagine a movie with Kamal, Sivaji and K.B in the lead! The very thought is exciting! It is a great loss to Tamil cinema! Kamal also mentions that he very badly wanted to get the film done, but somehow it did not materialize.
