Governer can pardon Dutt - Law Minister

Justice Katju, chief of Press Council of India, has recommended that Sanjay Dutt be pardoned and a mercy be appealed in his case. The appeal seems to have drawn favour from many ministers in the Central government who have said that the request should be placed before the Governor of Maharashtra who will be making the dutiful decision.
The Law Minister, Ashwani Kumar, has said that the Governor does indeed posses the powers within the constitution to pardon Sanjay Dutt but has declined to comment on his personal opinion on the matter. Meanwhile, actor turned MP Chiranjeevi has voiced his support saying that he will be the happiest person in the world if Sanjay Dutt was pardoned.
