Ilayathalapathy Vijay is the name which comes when Tamil cinema blockbusters. But interestingly, when he repeats a film with its mega hit directors, He has never given a hit for the second time.

Vijay did Kaadhallukku Mariyadhai with ace director Fazil turned out a blockbuster and milestone film in Vijay’s career. This film had Shalini as female lead and Ananda Kuttan handling the camera. Vijay-Fazil tried their luck again with Kannukkul Nilavu which turned to be huge disaster. In fact, songs were a super hit before the film’s release.

Thirumalai is a film which turned Vijay a true mass hero. After Vaseegara and Pudhiya Geethai’s failure this made Vijay back as Box office king. Then the team of Vijay-Ramana-Vidyasagar joined hands for the flick Aadhi. This film was an average runner in the box office and made huge loss to the distributers who got the film for high price.

Ghilli is a very important commercial film in Tamil cinema. It broke lot of records and became the all time Blockbuster next to Baasha and Padayappa. Not only this, Ghilli too satisfied all class of people and was lot better than the original movie. Vijay-Dharani hit combination’s next venture was KURUVI. Trisha became the heroine for this venture too and music was composed by Vidyasagar, Cinematography was done by Gopinath, editing was done by V.T.Vijayan and they tried to repeat most of the crew. Songs were super hit and huge expectation was riding on the film due to the hit songs, Electrifying theme music and returning of the hit combination. Red Giant produced and released this film in the grandest manner possible. Everyone knows the failure and criticism the film received.

Pokiri directed by Prabhu Deva made Vijay stable in super star race and its victory is well known. This Mega Hit team of Prabhudeva-Vijay-Vadivel-FEFSI Vijayan-Kola Bhaskar failed big time with VILLU. Similar to the films mentioned in the list the songs were huge hit among the masses and the trailer created extra curiosity among people and went down to the bottom.

The other hit combinations of Vijay-Vikraman and Vijay- S.J.Suriya were not able to take off their films Unnai Ninaithu and Puli respectively.

However Vijay has given hit after hit with few successful films. Like Thirupachi-Sivakasi with Perarasu and Friends-Kavalan with Siddiq. These films were not a game changer in Vijay’s career like the above mentioned films.

From this there is a myth “Vijay Second time super hit combination will fail.”

The biggest film in Vijay’s career is Thupakki. Directed by A.R.Murugadoss, this film went and shouted all the box office records and was the most acclaimed film of year 2012. This film grabbed award in most of the categories in all major South Indian award functions. This combination of Vijay- A.R.Murugadoss was created sky rocketing expectation and won the poll  “most expected film of the year”  conducted by many popular Cinema Magazines of Kollywood.

Now, the million dollar question is “Whether A.R.Murugadoss will break the myth in Vijay’s career?” If A.R.Murugadoss gives a better film than Thuppakki and makes the film huge blockbuster, then ‘Yes’ will be the answer for this question.

Interestingly all the failed films which are mentioned above had most of the cast and crew repeated But, Interestingly Murugadoss has chosen a brand new team. Starting from ‘The Music Sensation’ Anirudh, ‘Magician’ George C Williams, Anal Arasu and growing heroine Samantha, comedian Sathish and a whole bunch of fresh talent just retaining Sreekar Prasad to provide matured presentation of the work done by budding technicians sounds intelligent. 

Taking A.R.Murugadoss’s career, he has just given Super Hits other than Ezham Arivu. So we wish to see A.R.Murugadoss to overcome the expectation and break the myth -“Vijay Second time super hit combination will fail.”
