BEHINDWOODS COLUMN

It is a well-known fact that Kamal Haasan is going to act in the remake of the Malayalam movie, Drishyam. Though this will be the third film to be released for Kamal after V2 and UttamaVillain, I am looking forward to it. I have already seen the original version and I am pretty sure Kamal will do justice to the role he is playing. Unlike many other remakes which failed recently we can safely bet on Kamal to do this movie as good as the original - if not better.

Many things have increased my curiosity to watch this movie as soon as it hits the theatres. It's been a while since we saw Kamal as a family man with two kids. Kamal just has to be Kamal without any special makeup or extraordinary acting. We all love seeing the simple side of Kamal as well, don't we?

It is being rumoured that Raja may join hands with Kamal for the music. Even though the movie doesn't have scope for more than two to three songs, we can expect a treat even if it contains only one, keeping in mind that this combo has always given us spectacular music. They have produced some beautiful work in their last collaboration, Virumaandi and they might just continue from where they left. Now it is official that Raja is going to do the music for its Kannada version and I am waiting for the announcement on the Tamil version as well. This is one such rumour which I wish will be true.

Now, coming to the heroine - every day a new name is being suggested, but nothing has been finalized yet. Right from Meena who acted in the original, next Nadiya who's yet to act with Kamal, then Simran, but she has cleared the air with an official statement stating that she is not a part of this project, also Gauthami. But, what if Sridevi is approached and this Moondram Pirai pair is back on screen again? It will be one hell of a pair for sure. I hope they consider this possibility as it would be a perfect movie for them to get back again on screen.

And, this is the last and main reason which has increased my curiosity. In the original version Mohanlal plays a character, who spends most of his time watching movies and he even takes some decisions in his real life, getting inspired from some of the scenes of the movies he watches. Now, provided they don't change much of this character in the remake, there will be a scene where Kamal watches Superstar's movie. Imagine the response from the audience. When Superstar said Kamal's name in Sivaji there was thunderous response in the theaters and now it can't get bigger than this. We all want to see these legends together on screen. Even if they don't act together in the near future, this can be big enough for a celebration.

So will any of these combo's really happen. I will be happy if all of these happened, Kamal + Raja, Kamal + Sridevi and Kamal + Rajini. There is a very slim chance for the first two combinations to happen, but the last one is sure to happen. I just can't wait to watch them together on screen.
