Russia's war on Ukraine has raised fears about the plight of Indian students studying at universities there. The Government of India is making efforts to repatriate Indian students via neighboring countries from Ukraine. Yesterday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that Naveen Shekharappa, a native of Karnataka, who was studying medicine in Ukraine, was killed in an attack by the Russian military. 

Father of Indian Student who died in Ukraine shares his emotion

Medical Student from Karnataka:

Naveen hails from Selagere in Haveri district of Karnataka. He is 21. He is a third year MBBS student at the Kharkiv National Medical College in Ukraine. Naveen, who was staying in a bunker due to the Russian military attack, went out yesterday to buy groceries. Naveen, who was trapped in the air raid, died on the spot.

Indian Leaders Condole:

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has conveyed this unfortunate information to Naveen's father Sekarappa Gowda, who died in Ukraine. Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Congress President Rahul Gandhi offered their condolences to Sekarappa over the phone.

Speaking sadly about his son, Shekarappa Gowda said, "Naveen called me at 10 am yesterday and told me to go out for breakfast and call again after that. But the call did not come after that. At 2 pm, the foreign ministry officials called and said that my son had died in the attack. After that, Prime Minister Modi called at 4.30 pm and offered his condolences.

The Father of Indian Student who dies in Ukraine share his emotion

Sekarappa said in tears that he had sent his son to Ukraine to study medicine after learning that it would cost more to study medicine locally, adding that he could not bear the loss.

Speaking to Prime Minister Modi, he demanded that steps be taken to bring his son's body to India and that he would like Naveen's funeral to take place in his hometown.

As the death of Indian student Naveen in Russia's attack on Ukraine has shaken India, the student's father's request to Prime Minister Modi to take action to bring his son's body back to India has shaken everyone.
