Mecca

The city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia is considered a holy place by the Islamists. Millions of people from all over the world travel to Mecca every year for the Hajj pilgrimage. The Islamic people are keen to keep this water, which is used to quench their thirst, sacred in their homes. This water, which is supplied to millions of people daily, is secreted from a spring. This funnel fountain never dries up, even if water is continuously drawn.

Zamzam

Located 20 meters east of Mecca, the fountain is believed to date back to the time of the Prophet. Nearly five thousand years ago the Prophet took his wife Hajar and son Ismail to the site of what is now Kaaba. It is believed that the Prophet left them there alone, according to divine command.

In this situation, baby Ismail cried when he ran out of food and was very thirsty and his mother, Hajar did not know what to do. At that time, Ismail used his feet and kicked the ground and the water was extracted there. Hajar used to pile up the overflowing water with her hands and said, "Stop Stop" but still water kept coming out of the place. Zamzam in Arabic means wait, wait.

That is why the people call it Zamzam water. The Islamic people believe that this water will quench the thirst of human beings and have the power to cure diseases.

Perpetual fountain

A lid-like structure was formed at the top of the well, and the site was set at a depth of 2.5 m below it, at the entrance to the well. Initially water was pumped from this well by rope and now water is pumped from here at 18.5 liters per second by electric motors.

Traditional items such as the bucket and pulley of this well are still maintained in the mosque in Mecca. The largest team is working to purify and store this water that seeps down the Mecca. In addition, 4 lakh liters of Zamzam water per day is transported to the King Abdul Aziz Reservoir in Medina.

With a capacity of 16,000 cubic meters, water is supplied to the Prophet's Mosque from this reservoir. The Saudi Government tests water samples 100 times daily for microbial and chemical sampling to ensure its quality.

Researchers also say that cats need to be included in any precautionary measures against the virus. This well, which appears in the desert and continues to be of a great use for people, is truly a miracle beyond science.
