An old man from Japan has crossed the Pacific Ocean alone.
For many, travel can be a daunting task. If that too is a voyage, there will be no unwilling people. Humans' desire for the sea is one of the reasons why many countries around the world have been discovered. An 83-year-old man from Japan has proven to the world that age is not a barrier to achieving the desire to sail.
Kenichi Hori from Japan. He is 83 years old. Kenichi, who has an insatiable love of sea travel, has decided to explore the Pacific Ocean. That too alone. The grandfather intends to chase his target regardless of age or unpredictable sea weather.
Kenichi, who has decided to fulfill his ambitious goal of crossing the Pacific Ocean, began his voyage at the end of last March. Shortly after taking off from the US port of San Francisco, Kenichi encountered a major obstacle.
Kenichi had chosen the 19-foot-long, 990-kilogram Santori Mermaid III boat for his voyage. His boat was wrecked by a storm shortly after departure from San Francisco. However, Kenichi, who has been on the offensive, is happy to see the weather gradually change.
Kenichi, who continued to travel, arrived in Hawaii in mid-April. Hori then traveled 69 days non-stop across the Pacific Ocean and arrived in the Kiev Strait off the west coast of Japan early Saturday morning. He then proceeded to his home port of Shin Nishinomiya, where he was warmly welcomed by the locals.
Speaking on the occasion, Kenichi said, "I am still in the middle of my youth. It shows how healthy I am." At 83, Kenichi Hori has been admired by many across the Pacific Ocean.
