An officer with the Baytown Police Department shot and killed a 44-year-old Texas woman Monday night in the parking lot of the apartment where she lived, authorities said — an altercation that a witness captured on video, reports Washington Post.

Woman yells \"I\'m pregnant\" seconds before police shoots and kills her

Investigators have not released the name of the officer, but the woman’s identity was confirmed as Pamela Shantay Turner. According to police, the officer was patrolling when he saw her. Authorities said she was wanted on outstanding warrants for assault and criminal mischief, and the officer knew her from previous interactions.

He tried to arrest her and a “struggle ensued,” Baytown police Lt. Steve Dorris said. Witness video from the encounter, which was posted to social media and quickly went viral overnight, shows the officer attempting to apprehend the woman near a parked vehicle.

During said struggle, the officer used his taser, which was allegedly wrestled out of his control by the woman and used on the officer. The officer then jumped to his feet and fired five shots, hitting her at least once. In a video of the altercation circulating online, the woman can be heard yelling “Why are you harassing me?” and “I’m pregnant!” prior to being shot.

Later, police later said the medical examiner confirmed she was not pregnant. According to police, the officer tried to deploy his Taser at the woman during the struggle. When he tried to handcuff her, she grabbed the Taser and turned it back on the officer. The Taser grazed the officer, something police call a “drive stun,” zapping him momentarily. That’s when he pulled his gun and fired, Dorris said.

“Of course, our hearts go out to the families of the deceased as well as our officer.”The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, Dorris said. He was not injured severely enough to be treated at a hospital.
