As the world continues to fight the battle against the spread of the new novel coronavirus infection, several cases of reinfection have been reported in different countries. However, if reinfection is a possibility, the next question is if or not the vaccines that are being developed will stop reinfections.

On August 24, a 33-year-old man from Hong Kong, who had previously tested positive for the virus and recovered, had been re-infected. Soon reinfections were reported in the US and in Europe. India also reported three reinfection cases earlier this year. In Bengaluru, a 27-year-old woman who had recovered from the virus got re-infected.

Doctors have added that there is a lot that the scientific world is yet to learn about the virus and that several patients did not possess enough antibodies to fight the infection. However, experts have also added that there is no reason to be alarmed as they believe that it is too early to draw conclusions at the moment.

The good news is that most of the vaccine candidates which are under development are manufactured and designed to help boost the immunity against the virus and the different strains of the virus. The vaccines are also helping in reducing the severity of the disease in case of a possible reinfection.

The immunity that will be developing after vaccination is greater than the immunity that the body will develop by itself by contracting the disease. Hence, scientists have explained that these cases of reinfection only show the importance of getting vaccinated as soon as possible.
