The People’s Republic of China has now begun human trials for the 5th potential vaccine that has been developed. Previously started human trial results have also delivered results.

The Deputy Director of National health Commission, Zeng Yixin revealed that there have been no “major adverse reactions” reported among the 2,575 volunteers who have participated in the tests. “According to the plan if all goes well, the above projects will complete the second phase of clinical trials in July this year,” he added.

Previously China had only subjected 4 potential vaccines to human trial. The 5th one has only recently been approved for human testing. However, more vaccine candidates are in pipeline, reported the Times of India, to undergo human trial.

Sinovac Biotech, which developed one of the first vaccines which began human trials is based in Beijing. A representative from the institution has told AFP that it is looking to carry out the final stage of trial outside of China, since China does not have a large number of cases now.

While the novel coronavirus infection has spread to more than 4.4 million people, it has also claimed the lives of 3 lakh and more, on a global scale. However, experts continue to say that it will take a minimum of 12 to 18 months to develop a vaccine.
