After 9 years in the IPL, the CSK team has suffered the worst defeat.
The 11th league match of the IPL series was played at the Mumbai ground yesterday. In this Chennai Super Kings team and Punjab team clashed. CSK captain Jadeja chose to bowl after winning the toss.
Batting first, Punjab Kings scored 180 for 8 in 20 overs. Livingston top-scored with 60 and Shikhar Dhawan with 33. For CSK, Chris Jordan and Pretorius took 2 wickets each, while captain Jadeja, all-rounder Bravo and youngster Mukesh Choudhary took 1 wicket each.
Following this, CSK batted with a target of 181 to win. Robin Uthappa and Ruturaj Gaikwad were the opening batsmen. Ruturaj was out for 1, followed by Moeen Ali who was dismissed by duck out.
Ambati Rayudu, who was on the field at the time, formed an alliance with Robin Uthappa and played casually. Then Robin Uthappa was out for 13 and the next captain Jadeja ducked out. Following this, Ambati Rayudu also came out with 13 runs. CSK stumbled, losing 5 for 36.
The duo of Dhoni and Shivam Dube then relaxed and raised the score. Shivam was out for 57, but Bravo, who came next, struck out the first ball he faced. Following this, Dhoni was out for 23 runs. Pretorius came next with 8, Chris Jordan with 5 and Mukesh Choudhary with 12. So the CSK team lost all their wickets for 126 runs in 18 overs. Punjab won by 54 runs.
This is the second time in the history of the IPL that the CSK team has lost by a huge margin. CSK lost to Mumbai Indians by 60 runs in 2013. Nine years later, they have now lost by 54 runs to Punjab. It is also the first time in the history of the IPL that Chennai have lost the first three matches in a series.
