There is good news for cricket fans as World Cup-winning Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who had announced his retirement from all forms of the cricket in June 2019 is soon make his comeback.
Yuvraj Singh, will always be remembered for his performance in the 2011 World Cup, where India won under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, and Yuvraj won Man of the Tournament.
According to a report in Cricbuzz news website, Yuvraj has decided to come out of retirement to play domestic cricket for Punjab. “Initially, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to take up the offer,” Yuvraj told the cricket news website.
“I was done with domestic cricket, though I did want to continue to play in other domestic franchise-based leagues worldwide if I got permission from the BCCI. But I also couldn’t ignore Mr Bali’s request. I gave it a lot of thought, for nearly three or four weeks, and it was almost as if I didn’t even have to make a conscious decision in the end. As things stand now, I will be playing only T20s if I get the nod. But who knows, let’s see," Yuvraj said.
As per Hindustan Times report, amid the pandemic, Yuvraj conducted two long camps at the behest of the Punjab Cricket Association, at Mohali’s PCA Stadium. During the camps he (Yuvraj) took youngsters Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh and Anmolpreet Singh to help train them.
Seems like during the practice session, the former Indian all-rounder gave a thought to his passion for cricket and decided to play for Punjab in the T20 tournament. Also to help the budding players in their development, Hindustan Times further reported.
Earlier there were reports that Yuvraj was planning a club to play in the Australian Big Bash League. But things are now confirmed that if he wants to play for Punjab.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj has also written a letter to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah to ask for permission to play for Punjab and come out of his retirement.
